Ok this one should be easy for the CPT experts :) I am more of an ICD-9 person myself......

YOu would think this would be an easy one. :-(
What is the CPT code for a limited ultrasound of the heart GRRRRRR!!!
Is it 93976?!?!?!?

Thanks!
Linda

Echocardiography is examination of the heart using ultrasound techniques so it seems to me 93308 may be the correct code.
93308 Echocardiography, transthoracic, real-time with image documentation (2D), includes M-mode recording, when performed, follow-up or limited study
93979 Duplex scan of aorta, inferior vena cava, iliac vasculature, or bypass grafts; unilateral or limited study

Check out these links on the AAPC forum that support using 93308 for a limited heart ultrasound:

Thanks Ruth,

Actually I think I have been at this to long today - after a closer look at the category 93979 is under - it was completely wrong for what I needed. But 93308 seems like it is a Heart ultrasound limited study.

Thanks!
